Brit expands with Sequel's 'Single View' Eclipse

Brit Insurance Holdings plc, a leading UK general insurer, due to write over £1 billion of premium income in 2003, has chosen Sequel, the insurance technology providers, to implement Brit’s forward thinking IT strategy for its London Market portfolio.

With one of the strongest balance sheets in the London Market, Brit is on course for significant expansion in 2004.  To underpin a period of rapid growth and performance, investment in a "single view" process to manage the portfolio and maximise business efficiencies was the dominant driver.

Key to Brit's plan is Sequel's Eclipse, a processing, management and administration solution for Lloyd's Agents, London Market Companies and Brokers, which will be used by all Brit Syndicate and Company Underwriters.  As a component based application built on Microsoft's development architecture, Brit's choice of Eclipse was largely due to its ability to provide a progressive approach to computing with immediate functionality, a structured development environment and rapid customisation capability in anticipation of changing market needs.

Brit's Group IT Director, John Krekis commented: "We are a company that believes in strong partnerships and technical excellence.  We have found in Sequel and Eclipse an organisation and product that meets our exacting criteria and that will grow with us through our next phase of expansion."

David Smith, Managing Director of Sequel is delighted to be working on a project of such strategic significance: "Brit's approach to the selection process was thorough and professional and allowed us to present Eclipse across a range of formal responses, presentations and workshops.  We are confident that Eclipse will deliver a first class IT platform for Brit - both in the short term and throughout a period of rapid business growth."
